You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer:
For 70.1 transfer to Office Assistant 1, SG-6, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

Duties
This position is located within the Bureau of Benefit Calculations & Disbursement Services, Division of Retirement Services and is responsible for:
- Mail
- Sort incoming mail on a daily basis. Distributes to appropriate staff to enable case processing.
- Maintains the hundreds of documents scanned weekly as Review Miscellaneous Documents in the People Soft portal, determines where documents belong and forwards them to the appropriate work unit.
- Perform general clerical duties
- Processes address changes in People Soft.
- Maintains Electronic Fax and Mailboxes and distributes documents to the appropriate work unit.

- Participate in various bureau or division projects as needed. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Address changes
- Beneficiary changes
- Assisting with bureau projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to understand and use common office record keeping and filing systems and processes.
- Ability to code and decode data for machine processing and similar office processing.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret regulations, procedural manuals, and other documents used in routine office processing.
- Ability to use common office equipment including equipment having alphanumeric keyboards, photocopiers, calculators, CRT's.
- Ability to perform tasks accurately within prescribed time frames.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Telecommuting
The Office of the New York State Comptroller supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, new employees will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s primary residence location, duties, and work performance are aligned with telecommuting and operational needs they may be allowed to do so. Generally, employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period but may be approved to telecommute less.
